Elementary School Teacher Accused Of Sexually Assaulting 2 Males In Classroom

EL SEGUNDO (CBSLA.com)  — Officials in El Segundo have arrested a 37-year-old elementary school teacher on suspicion of sexually assaulting two male juveniles in his classroom.

Authorities say they first received an anonymous tip in August 2012 and have been conducting a "thorough" investigation.

Jeffrey Simonek, a 5th grade teacher who was on administrative leave throughout the investigation, was served with a warrant for his arrest Wednesday.

Simonek is accused of assaulting the two students last year in his Center Street School classroom.

It is alleged that Simonek also worked as a Lake Tahoe-area summer camp counselor from 2005-11 where he worked with boys ages 6-11.

Investigators believe he committed similar lewd acts on boys at the camp. He was also known to volunteer with youth organizations in Los Angeles and Orange County, according to El Segundo police.

Simonek is being held on $300,000 bail.

If anyone has information or further allegations of similar lewd acts involving Simonek, you're asked to contact Detective Jeff Humphrey at (310) 524-2284.
