SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Police shot a robbery suspect Monday night near Santa Ana High School.

Authorities received several calls that a man with a gun was chasing people in the 200 block of South Birch Street, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

Officials said the suspect reportedly robbed someone.

Police arrived at the scene and were prompted to shoot the suspect, Bertagna said.

The suspect was taken to the hospital and was expected to survive.
