Long Beach Police Investigating Man Who Was Set On Fire

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Police in Long Beach are investigating a possible attempted murder Friday where the victim was set on fire.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. at Ranch Market.

The 54-year-old man was reportedly waiting for his elderly father who was inside the store.

Police said a 20-something suspect threw a Molotov cocktail at the victim's feet.

The suspect then ran off.

"There is no connection between the two. At this point, the motive is unknown. The victim…was waiting for his father. When (the father) heard screaming, he came out and discovered his son was a victim of this crime," said Sgt. Aaron Eaton from the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of the PCH thinking they were being sent to a structure fire before they discovered the man had been set ablaze.

The unidentified man is in serious condition at the hospital, according to authorities.

CBS2's Andrea Fujii  said police are urging anyone with any information about the suspect to call Long Beach police.
