19-Year-Old Accused Of Bank Robbery In Buena Park

BUENA PARK (CBS) —  Officials say a 19-year-old stands accused of robbing a Bank of America branch in Buena Park.

Police in Buena Park identified the suspect as Matthew Huff. However, Huff is listed in court and jail records as Matthew Hoff.

Huff is suspected of robbing the branch at 6210 Beach Blvd. about 2 p.m., Thursday, said Buena Park police Cpl. Andy Luong.

Media coverage of the robbery prompted tips to authorities that led police to identify Huff as their suspect, Luong said.

Huff was arrested about 11:30 p.m., Friday, on the 8100 block of Fourth Street, Luong said. He was being held on $100,000 bail, according to jail records.

The robber claimed to have an explosive device, according to FBI Special Agent Chris Gicking.

FBI investigators do not think Huff is the so-called Pipe Bomb Bandit, who is responsible for a series of bank heists in Garden Grove and Seal Beach, Gicking said.
