Skateboarder, 20, Dragged And Killed In Alleged OC Hit-And-Run

LAGUNA NIGUEL (CBSLA.com) —A 20-year-old skateboarder was killed Friday morning by an alleged hit-and-run driver in Laguna Niguel.

The accident happened just before 4 a.m. on Golden Lantern and Marina Hills Drive.

Authorities said Carlos Salas was on his skateboard when he was hit and dragged 25 feet by the car.

He was found in the road and taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The suspect's vehicle, a black 1998 Nissan Maxima, was found in a residential neighborhood about a quarter mile from the crash site. It was registered to a man in Dana Point.

"Investigators are saying the damage is consistent with a collision of this type of vehicle versus a pedestrian," said Sgt. Mark Alsobrook from the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Salas' friend, Cody Briscoe, said Carlos would want the suspect to pay for what he or she did.

"Find the guy who did it and get payback? That's what he would want. That's what Carlos would want," said Briscoe. "Our (friend) died two years ago from the same thing…now it's Carlos. Everybody keeps dying around here."

Friends and family gathered Friday night for a candlelight vigil and sidewalk memorial to remember the 20-year-old aspiring private investigator.

Police are encouraging anyone with information on the accident to call (855) TIP-OCCS.
