Beverly Hills Police Officer Arrested For DUI After Simi Valley Crash

SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A Beverly Hills police officer was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of driving under the influence after he crashed his truck in a light pole, house and wall in Ventura County.

Jeffery Sweet, 42, lost control of his pickup and crashed just before 10:30 p.m. on Royal Avenue in Simi Valley, police said.

The Simi Valley resident's truck came to a rest upside down on the retaining wall.

A gas line was also severed in the accident, forcing the temporary evacuation of two homes, Simi Valley police said.

Sweet, who was off duty at the time of the accident, was taken to Simi Valley Hospital after complaining of pain.

He was later arrested and booked at the Ventura County Jail, police said.

Officers from the Beverly Hills Police Department are assisting in the investigation and released the following statement:

"Beverly Hills Police Department Professional Standards Unit investigators responded to the scene and an internal administrative investigation into the incident will be conducted."

Sweet was released from jail after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Royal Avenue is expected to be shut down until at least 11 a.m. while crews repair the gas line and light pole.
