Surf's Up Along Southern California Coastline
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — More high surf is expected through Monday along the Southern California coastline.
A high surf advisory issued by the National Weather Service is expected to remain in effect through 6 p.m. Monday for the Orange County and San Diego coastlines.
The advisory forecasts surf heights of 5 to 8 feet with occasional higher sets for Sunday. They are being generated by what is now a tropical depression off the coast of Mexico.
The big waves brought dozens of surfers and scores of spectators to Newport Beach on Saturday where a big swell out of the south was producing waves of up to 20 feet.
Most breakers rolled in at 8 to 12 feet. Elsewhere, along the Orange County coast, the surf was in the 5- to 8-foot range.
No serious injuries were reported though lifeguards made dozens of rescues.
Along the Los Angeles County coastline, forecasters predict the surf breaking at 3 to 5 feet with some sets up to 7 feet on south-facing beaches.
Lifeguards say that surf conditions could be hazardous for anyone entering the water this weekend and urge beach-goers to exercise caution.
