OC Mom Allegedly Leaves Baby In Hot Car While She Shops For Lingerie

LAGUNA HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A Laguna Hills mother was arrested Monday for allegedly leaving her 2-month-old son inside a hot, sweltering car while she shopped at Victoria's Secret.

Fernanda Marina Gomes-Sotozono, 34, was reportedly shopping inside a Laguna Hills mall while her child was inside the car with the windows down, according to Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Police got a call about a distressed child around 1:15 p.m.

Deputies found the baby in the backseat of the still-running car.

"Even though the windows were rolled down, the outside temperature was 91 degrees," said Amormino.

The infant was checked by paramedics and was deemed okay.

Police said security tape proves Gomes-Sotozono left her son unattended for more than 30 minutes while she shopped for lingerie and jewelry.

KCAL9's Stacey Butler said she spoke with a woman who was inside the store at the same time the suspect was shopping. She said Gomes-Sotozono was perusing and taking her time.

The suspect was booked on suspicion of felony child endangerment.

She's being held on $100,000 bail.

Child Protective Services took custody of the newborn.
