Randi Ragan Shares Tips On How To Raise 'Green' Kids

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Green living expert Randi Ragan stopped by the KCAL9 studios Tuesday to show parents how to teach their kids to be environmentally savvy.

Ragan is also the founder of GreenBliss EcoSpa.

Randi says that "one of the best ways to teach your children to care about and respect their environment and to live 'green' is to be a good role model."

How Parents Can Help Their Children Become Green Kids

1.  Teach your child ways to reuse – this actually feeds into #4

2.  Instill the art of recycling – this feeds into both #1 and #2

3.  Train your child to be ingredient warriors – I can bring some packaged food and some personal care beauty products to demo with

4.  Take the fresh and natural approach with foods -- Go Organic – this is an important of part of #2 discussion

5.  Take a zero trash lunch to school – I can bring my daughter's lunch stuff and show it as I tell.

6.  Teach then about the eco systems where you live and spend time playing in them – I can bring some Junior Peterson's field guides and some binoculars and/or magnifying glass as examples of things to use in backyard nature exploration

7.  Buy toys that don't require batteries – Can bring paper making kit, knitting kit, photo journal my daughter made of all our backyard critters, and her fashion workbooks or her handmade Barbie and other doll clothes she has made out of household items like old buttons, pillowcases, etc

8. Conserve Water – don't keep the water running when brushing teeth, take shorter showers – can do this but no way to "demo" :)
