Cooling Centers To Help Residents Cope With Excessive Heat
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Emergency Management Department and the Department of Recreation and Parks announced Thursday they have extended the operating hours of a number of cooling center facilities.
The cooling centers are available in the Southland to help residents cope with the excessive heat.
Officials issued a heat advisory Monday warning residents to stay cool and hydrated.
100-degree weather was forecast for areas in the San Fernando, San Gabriel, Santa Clarita, and Antelope valleys through Friday.
Health experts are recommending residents to wear light, loose-fitting clothing, drink plenty of water or electrolyte-replacing sports drinks, and stay indoors with air-conditioning on.
Residents who are unable to access cool indoors are urged to visit public facilities or local cooling centers. Authorities suggest that those in need of heat help call 211 or (800) 339-6993.
