Full Containment Of Volcano Fire Expected Sunday

MURRIETA (CBS) — A wildfire that scorched 355 acres of heavy brush and destroyed one home near Murrieta was expected to be fully contained Sunday.

"The fire remains 95 percent contained," said State fire spokesman Jody Hagemann. "We have two engines and one fire crew assigned today. Full containment is estimated by 6 p.m."

The Volcano Fire broke out about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

It charred a hillside in unincorporated Deluz, destroyed one two-story home and injured 3 firefighters.

One firefighter suffered a broken ankle and was taken to a hospital. Two others suffered unspecified minor injuries, authorities said.

A hot spot that flared up prevented full containment by Thursday night.

Firefighters say a county worker mowing the grass on Tenaja Road hit some barbed wire sparking the fire.

"The county is providing its full cooperation as fire department officials continue their investigation," said County Executive Office spokesman Ray Smith.
