School Board Member Facing Rape, Pimping Charges May Run For Council

MORENO VALLEY (CBS) — A Moreno Valley Unified School District board member facing charges of pimping, pandering and rape may run for City Council, according to City Clerk Jane Halstead.

Halstead said Mike Rios has pulled the paperwork to run against District 1 Councilman Jesse Molina. Rios said he plans to end corruption.

Rios was arrested in April for allegedly having three women work for him as prostitutes.

He's also accused of trying to recruit four other women and two underage girls.

Rios allegedly told at least one woman that he was a member of the Moreno Valley school board and asked her if she needed a job, according to police.  Another woman answered an Internet advertisement for a job.

Authorities said Rios offered the underage girls the use of his home and car if they would work as prostitutes for him.

Rios was also charged with attempted murder back in March for shooting at two people after a confrontation.

He previously ran for City Council in 2008, but lost.

Two years later, he was elected to the school board.
