Ex-Beauty Queen Sues LA Sheriff's For Busting Her In The Buff

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A former miss Nevada is suing the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department alleging deputies burst through her apartment last November and forced her out of her bed at gunpoint while naked.

Caleche Manos, crowned Miss Nevada in 2007, and her boyfriend were in their Santa Monica when deputies rushed in while serving a search warrant.

Deputies had a search warrant for apartment C, but instead rushed through their unit clearly marked as apartment A.

The ex-beauty queen is suing for false imprisonment, sexual harassment and civil rights violations and is seeking unspecified damages.

The sheriff's department admits there was a mix up.

"The identifiers at the door were perhaps not as clear as the lawsuit states. Our contention, and this is based on the facts, is that our deputies acted appropriately," Steve Whitmore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department told CBS2/KCAL9 reporter Cristy Fajardo.

The lawsuit alleges deputies acted inappropriately and stayed for a significant amount of time and even after realizing their mistake, did not offer an apology.

Instead, one deputy allegedly joked that Manos and her boyfriend would have a story to tell others during Thanksgiving dinner.

CBS2/KCAL9 couldn't reach Manos and her attorneys for comment and her boyfriend who's also named in the suit, declined to comment.

But the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department says it's looking forward to its day in court.

"As with anything, when somebody files a lawsuit, the whole story isn't being told and we look forward to doing just that—telling the entire story—in the appropriate legal arena," Whitmore said.
