Man Allegedly Threatens Moviegoers, Arrested At AMC Norwalk Theatre

NORWALK (CBS) — A man heard shouting inside an AMC Theatre and making references about Colorado mass theatre shooting and a gun was arrested on Sunday after a movie patrons complained to theatre security, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The incident occurred around 5: 15 p.m. as movie goers were preparing to watch "The Dark Knight" at the AMC Norwalk 20 Theatre.

Witnesses said the suspect, identified by deputies as Clark Tabor, allegedly held his cell phone in the air and yelled into the crowd "Does anyone have a gun?" and "I should go off like in Colorado" according to Capt. Mike Parker of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Movie patrons said they were afraid the suspect was going to remove a gun from his backpack and shoot them, according to Parker.

Last week, a mass shooting at a movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado left 12 people dead and 58 others injured during the midnight viewing of "The Dark Knight" when a gunman opened fire. James Holmes, 24, is the suspected gunman who police detained after the shooting.

The fatal shooting prompted a heightened security patrol in areas of Los Angeles and Hollywood and authorities said they were concerned about a copycat gunman. Undercover police officers were also put on patrol.

After Cabor made those threats, the Norwalk Sheriff's deputies arrived and found the 52-year-old suspect had a backpack and was on his knees in the second row of the seats. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies were also called to the scene and detained Cabor.

"A witness saw and heard strange activity and reported it immediately, said Capt. Pat Maxwell of the Norwalk Sheriff's Station, in a statement.

Parker says no weapons were found during the search of the suspect, the movie theatre, and the surrounding area.

There were no guns found during a search of the suspect's residence, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Tabor was arrested for making criminal threats and is being held in the Men's Central Jail with a bail set at $50,000, plus unrelated warrants, according to Parker.

Cabor is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at the Bellflower Court.
