Sow Dies After Giving Birth To 11 Piglets At The Orange County Fair

COSTA MESA (CBS) — The adorable new piglets born at the Orange County Fair this week have already had a tragedy in their family.

The piglets' mother, a bluebutt or Yorkshire mix sow named Daisy, died of an unrelated seizure Wednesday morning, according to the Daily Pilot, the day after she gave birth to 11 pink and black piglets. She was just 3 years old.

The newspaper reports that Centennial Farms staff are bottle-feeding the piglets cow's milk about once every hour and a half. It would be dangerous to try and have the piglets suckle another sow, KNX 1070's Jan Stevens reports.

The piglets may stay on the farm, go to an organization like 4H or Future Farmers of America or be auctioned off.
