Man, 72, Allegedly Kills Wife With Hatchet Before Taking His Own Life

HUNTINGTON PARK (CBS) — Authorities are trying to determine why a 72-year-old man killed his 69-year-old wife with a hatchet before taking his own life in Huntington Park.

Officials say Adalberto Reyes killed Juana Reyes and then hanged himself.

Police were alerted to the deaths about 1 p.m. Tuesday by a 911 call made from the couple's home in the 2600 block of East 56th Street, near Pacific Avenue, said Sgt. David Cassidy of the Huntington Park Police Department. The bodies were found when "someone came home," he said.

Craig Harvey of the coroner's office said autopsies are scheduled for tomorrow, but that preliminary indications point to a case of murder-suicide.
