14-Year-Old Faces Sexual Assault Charges In Oxnard

OXNARD (CBS/AP) — Police in Southern California say a 14-year-old boy has been arrested for the sexual assault of a 31-year-old woman at a laundromat.

Oxnard police said in a statement that the boy was taken into custody Tuesday after a two-day search where officers had been seeking a teenager between 15 and 18.

Police said the attack was captured on surveillance video shortly before midnight Sunday at Ben's Laundromat at 501 Cooper Rd. in Oxnard.

They say the woman was at the laundromat when it was about to close when the boy blocked the exit to keep her from leaving then assaulted her. According to police reports, the suspect fled the scene but was described as a Hispanic male believed to be between 15 to 18-years-old. THe youth was later arrested at his home in Oxnard.

The boy, whose name has not been released because he is a minor, was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment and touching an intimate part of another person while they are unlawfully restrained.

People with additional information about this incident are encouraged to call Oxnard police at (805) 385-7740 or Detective Luis McArthur at (805) 385-7662.
