Police Shoot And Kill Robbery Suspect In Rubidoux

RUBIDOUX (CBS) — Police shot and killed a robbery suspect in Rubidoux Saturday morning.

The attempted robbery happened in Jurupa Valley in Riverside County.

The suspect reportedly tried to hold up a woman in front of a church on Pacific Avenue about 9 a.m.

Greg Mills, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9,  said the unidentified suspect was reportedly killed after a brief foot chase.

Mills spoke to a witness who didn't want her face shown or her name given. "I saw the guy run up to this lady and she started screaming. He ran down the street. And that was it."

The witness believed it was a homeless man who threatened the woman.

Mills reports there is a homeless encampment near the crime scene.

Sgt. Lisa McConnel of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said, "One of the officers was able to catch up with the suspect at which time he threatened the officer, said he had a gun, and said he was going to shoot the officer."

The suspect died at a hospital.

As a standard procedure, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave.
