Probe Underway Following Deputy-Involved Shooting In Compton

COMPTON (CBS) — An investigation continued Sunday hours after a man was injured in a deputy-involved shooting in Compton.

The incident in the 500 block of South Long Beach and Alondra boulevards occurred about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to sheriff's Sgt. Pauline Panis, authorities responded to that location after receiving a "loud party" call.

"As the party was dispersing, a deputy heard gunshots. The deputy looked inside the party and saw a male adult holding a handgun. Fearing for his safety, the deputy fired at the man, striking him," Panis said.

The condition of the man has not been released, according to KNX 1070's Ed Mertz.

Meantime, deputies say another person at the party was also shot.

"It's unknown who shot him. He was transferred to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead," she said.
