Ojai Youth Football Group's Ex-Treasurer Accused Of Embezzling More Than $35K

OJAI (CBS) — Authorities say the former treasurer of a local youth football league embezzled more than $35,000 from the non-profit group.

Amber Workman, 42, of Ojai, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of grand theft, Ventura County Sheriff's Detective Michael Harris said.

Workman worked as the treasurer for the Ojai Eagle Youth Football Organization between January 2007 and December 2009, with access to the nonprofit's bank checking account as a signer on the account.

When the youth football group was notified that their non-profit status was being suspended for failure to file tax returns from 2007 to 2009, they discovered Workman obtained a debit card for the organization's bank account and used it for her personal use, Harris said.

Detectives say Workman embezzled between $35,000 and $49,000 between 2007 and ending in 2009.
