2 Fishermen Die, 2 Survive Overnight Boat Mishap In Orange

ORANGE (CBS) — Two of four fishermen are dead after their small fiberglass boat capsized overnight in Irvine Lake.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department responded after receiving a call from the fire department about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Two of the men were found by a security guard near the overturned boat and the rescue effort to find the others immediately began, said Orange County Fire Authority Battalion Chief Kris Concepcion.

The search was eventually turned over to the Orange County Sheriff's Department by 3:30 a.m.

The bodies of the deceased were pulled from the water at 10:20 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., authorities said.

Authorities identified the two dead Sunday evening. Juan Flores, of Orange, would have been 35 next month. Tomas Privera, also of Orange, would have been 24 on July 2.

The two survivors are also from the city of Orange, authorities said.
