Bicyclist Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver In North Hills

NORTH HILLS (CBS) — Authorities are looking for a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a bicyclist on Nordoff Street at 2 a.m. Friday.

A witness called police to report that a dark-colored SUV struck the male victim, who is believed to be in his 50s, before fleeing the scene.

"This bicyclist did all the right things. Unfortunately, this accident occurred. I mean, he had a helmet on, the reflective vest, the bike headlights and things. He was an avid bicyclist that had all the right things on it," LAPD Capt. Ivan Minsal told CBS2.

The SUV, which may be black with tinted windows, was last seen speeding toward the 405 Freeway, Minsal said.

KNX 1070's John Brooks reports the vehicle has a roof rack and likely sustained damage after the high-speed impact.

"Looks like he was launched about 100 feet from the point of impact, he landed basically in the parking lot," said LAPD Officer Matthew Gale. "He had severe blunt force trauma pretty much all over his body."

Officials say Nordoff Street will be closed at Woodley Avenue to the 405 Freeway as they continue investigating.

Anyone with information was asked contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
