3 Fullerton City Council Members Ousted In Recall Election

FULLERTON (CBS) — Three long-time members of the Fullerton City Council have been ousted in the wake of Kelly Thomas' beating death.

Residents Tuesday voted to recall council members Don Bankhead, Fred Jones and Pat McKinley.

They will be replaced by businessman Greg Sebourn, Planning Commissioner Travis Kiger and business attorney Doug Chaffee.

Recall supporters say Bankhead, Jones and McKinley failed to accept responsibility for the 2011 beating involving several Fullerton police officers.

McKinley conceded the race and congratulated the new council members.

"I was hoping it wouldn't be, but usually recalls in these kinds of situations are successful. And so the electorate has spoken and I'll go on my way now," McKinley told CBS2. "I wish the new council members all the best in the world and I hope they do the best thing for the city."
