Police Follow 'Hansel & Gretel Trail' Of Crumbs, Wrappers To Burglary Suspects

SAN DIEGO (CBS) — A crew of apparently hungry burglary suspects were facing charges on Friday after they allegedly stole snacks and other property from a Little League snack bar.

KNX 1070's Tom Reopelle reports officers followed a trail of discarded wrappers right to the suspects' doorstep.

A neighbor reported hearing a lot of noise at the Rolando Little League snack bar in La Mesa, about 10 miles northeast of San Diego, and called the police.

After arriving on the scene and discovering the snack bar had been vandalized, officers were then able to follow a "Hansel and Gretel trail of crumbs" comprised of empty cookie, chip and Cheetos packages for about two blocks to the suspects' home, according to La Mesa Police Sgt. Katie Lynch.

Inside the residence, officers found more snacks and a cash register belonging to the Little League organization.

"This really works out well for our victims and certainly for the Little League, in that we were able to get some of their stuff back," said Lynch.

A man and two women were arrested for investigation of burglary and one girl was transported to Juvenile Hall.
