Police Release ID Of Bicyclist Fatally Shot In Koreatown

KOREATOWN (CBS) — Authorities Sunday released the identity of a bicyclist who was chased down by a white sport utility vehicle and was then shot to death by gunmen who jumped out of the car.

The deadly incident happened about 1:20 p.m. Saturday at New Hampshire Avenue and San Marino Street in Koreatown.

The victim was identified by police as 19-year-old Shaoyan Almazan of Los Angeles.

A second bicyclist was also shot.

Edward Lawrence, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, said that bike rider was taken to a hospital where he is expected to survive his injuries.

"The SUV had three suspects in it. The driver appeared to stay inside. The two exited the vehicle. Once the shooting took place, they jumped back into the vehicle and they went southbound on New Hampshire towards Olympic out of the area," said Sgt. Rudy Lopez of the LAPD said.

No immediate arrests have been announced.
