At Least 4 Stores Gutted In Massive Fire In LA's Fashion District

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — At least four retail stores were gutted in an overnight blaze in downtown's Fashion District.

The fire broke out just after 2 a.m. in a store at the Maple Alley Fashion Center off Olympic Boulevard.

Mike Dinow, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, says when firefighters arrived, flames were shooting from the roof.

About 140 firefighters responded to the scene and were able to knock down the fire in under two hours.

"It's a total disaster. The whole roof is down. There's nothing left in there," said Mazhar Islam, who owns two of the stores.

One firefighter was transported to County-USC Medical Center for treatment of a cut to his arm, according to Dinow.

No one else was injured.

There's still no word on the cause of the blaze. An investigation is under way.
