Man Killed And Girl, 7, Critical In Hit-And-Run

WILLOWBROOK (CBS) — A 38-year-old man was killed, and a 7-year-old girl was critically injured, when they were run over in a Willowbrook crosswalk by a pearl white Cadillac Escalade, California Highway Patrol officers said Saturday.

The driver fled the scene.

The crash occurred at about 5:50 p.m. Friday, as the SUV was going west on Santa Ana Boulevard. The man and girl were crossing the street from north to south at Watts Avenue. There are no traffic signals at the intersection.

Paramedics rushed the 38-year-old man to Saint Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, where he was pronounced dead. The 7-year-old girl was sent to Long Beach Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

CHP officers said the Escalade sustained damage to its right front fender, front bumper and grille. The Cadillac emblem located on the front of the vehicle was left at the crash scene, according to a department statement.

The driver was described as a heavy-set Latino man with a short haircut and goatee. He was wearing a white T-shirt with a large gold chain necklace.

The CHP's South Los Angeles office asked anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts of the driver, or the damaged pearl white Cadillac Escalade, to call them at (310) 516-3355.
