'Bling Ring' Detective's Decision To Consult For Film May Complicate Prosecution
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — An LAPD detective is under fire for consulting on an upcoming "Bling Ring" movie, which could compromise the real case.
Det. Brett Goodkin helped bust a ring of teenagers who are accused of breaking into the homes of celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Orlando Bloom.
Filmmaker Sophia Coppola hired Goodkin to consult on her docudrama, and the Los Angeles Times reports he will even play himself in the movie.
Three of the four defendants in the burglaries have yet to go to trial.
Goodkin's work with the film could give defense attorneys a reason to keep him from testifying.
