Popular Porn Actor Dies After Struggle With LAPD Officers

LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — A porn actor known as Sledge Hammer has died several days after being shocked with a stun gun during a struggle with Los Angeles police officers.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Hammer, born Marland Anderson, died at a hospital Friday morning.

Lt. Andrew Neiman said Anderson's girlfriend called police last Sunday and said that he tried to hurt himself with a knife. Neiman said he had suffered a knife injury.

Paramedics and officers who responded to the attempted suicide call handcuffed him to a gurney and took him into an ambulance.

Neiman said that once inside the ambulance, Anderson broke from the handcuff and gurney and had to be restrained by a stun gun.

According to Sledge Hammer's facebook page, he graduated from Mission Viejo High School and Saddleback college. He enjoyed the movie "Thor," the television show "Supernatural" as well as Fox News and BET.

Anderson was born February 9, 1973.

Fellow porn star and friend Jack Lawrence expressed his grief on Twitter and facebook. "I still can't believe that Sledge Hammer is gone. Nine years I have known him. Just THE  nicest guy EVER, & so respectful 2 the women in the biz."

He added, "He was just an awesome guy. I woke up this morning wishing it had just been a dream :-( "
