Masked Man Arrested After Failed Bar Robbery In Costa Mesa

COSTA MESA (CBS) — Police have arrested a man who allegedly tried to rob an Orange County bar early Wednesday morning.

Ryan Matthew Stimbert, 37, was arrested for attempted robbery, shooting into an inhabited dwelling and brandishing a firearm, police said.

Stimbert, entered the Avalon Bar, 820 W. 19th Street, around 1 a.m. "wearing a camouflaged pullover mask and holding a large size scoped revolver," Cosa Mesa police Sgt. Phil Myers said.

He demanded cash, brandished the gun at several patrons and left without taking any money, Myers said. Patrons then reported hearing shots fired outside the bar.

Myers said Stimbert later drove to the 1900 block of Placentia Avenue where he "fired his revolver into a building that was occupied by two employees. No one in this occupied building was hurt."

An investigation revealed that Stimbert was drunk at the time of the attempted robbery and had been asked to leave another bar earlier that night.

Police recovered a large caliber revolver and camouflage mask from his truck.

Stimbert is being held on $250,000 bail.
