Long Beach Man And Elderly Mom With Dementia Win $50K Home Makeover
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — As baby boomers get older, and continue to live longer, it's estimated that three in four of Americans over 65 will need nursing homes, assisted living, in-home help, or other long-term care.
Most are unprepared for the financial and emotional cost.
Long Beach resident John Simich -- a rock singer -- recently became the primary caregiver for his 87-year-old mom with dementia. Their home was completely unsuitable and unsafe for her needs. Neither could afford the $50,000+ in renovations required.
Dr. Marion Somers - an LA resident an expert in elder care- just gave John a total home safety makeover, through the organization "3 in 4 Need More" which refers to the number of elderly who need assisted living care.
