SANTA MONICA (CBS) — Campus police at Santa Monica College pepper sprayed a crowd of students Tuesday after they disrupted a Board of Trustees meeting.

Roughly 100 students began chanting “Shame on you!” at the board members from outside the meeting, which took place in the Business Administration building.

The group reportedly caused a campus police officer to lose his balance, which apparently led to the use of pepper spray.

As seen on this video on the Patch’s Web site, students began running out of the hall as it filled with vapor.

The board was forced to end the meeting when paramedics were called to treat nearly 30 people.

Two people were taken to the hospital, according to the Santa Monica Fire Department.

Students told CBS2 reporter Suzie Suh that the incident should not have escalated to that point.

They said they were demanding to have a say in a new course program that could begin as early as this summer.

The program, which would be funded privately, would offer core courses at prices that would be three times the cost of state-funded courses.

School officials argue that it would offset major cuts in state funding.

The students, with the exception of a few student delegates, were not allowed inside the room where the meeting was held.

“It was a mixed crowd. There were elderly members, there were students, and there were children as well,” according to a student at the protest.

She added that one student delegate inside the meeting, upset after being pepper sprayed, pointed her finger at an officer when she was “grabbed by her neck and thrown down to the ground by her neck.”

“Right now we don’t even know what condition she’s in. I’m sure she’s in the hospital,” the student said.

I can’t even get a job. That’s because that aS$hole lawyer Robert Hale from Hale and Nguyen in Brea couldn’t help me with my case. I’m a chickensh!t aS$puck that has a beef with law enforcement and everybody on the internet. I used multiple screen names like [GROW..APAIR], [wg//af], [up//yours], [Mike in San Diego], [Mike in Upland], [1stman] and [kma] so no one can track me down. I challenge people to meet me in front of the Fullerton P.D. station for my protection. I’m such a puS$y dumbf**k with nothing to say I post to myself copying sentences from everyone, especially GROWAPAIR, who knows I’m a ball sniffing loser.
I’ll use your screen name next, puS$y d!cklips.
Pay attention to me when I hijack screen names to show I’m a whiny puS$y dumbf**k loser. It makes my ass pucker with joy when people think I’m GROWAPAIR and my daddy’s balls like it when my ass puckers. Tell me how I can sound any more f**king stupid..

LOL @.the main photo showing the kids faces who were just pepper sprayed by the perpetrator…sad but you must admit that it is a bit funny.

  3. John says:

For goodness sake, it was pepper spray fired when a guy lost his balance. It’s not like somebody got shot. Get over it.

For those of you interested, here is a video that I took at the start of the school board meeting following the pepper spray incident:

Wow! Those adult-children AKA students, threw a tantrum and disrupted the meeting until they got their way.

Folks, this is the result of outlawing spanking disobedient little-ones. When they become adults, they become a problem for law enforcement.

I say, let the pepper-spray flow plentifully!

      1. Sander says:

@ JustaGoon I bet you dont have children. If you did youd realize how immature and brutish you sound. Anyone who has children would never want them to be brutalized by the police especially when they are taking part in an important issue such as tuition hikes. You need to grow up sir.

      2. JustAGuy says:

@sander, I would be disappointed that I didn’t teach my kids well enough to not get themselves into such altercations.

If I saw my kid in one of those Occupy events, I would be ashamed of myself and angry at my kid.

Nothing good ever comes from all this chanting and rabble-rousing.

      3. JustAGuy says:

@sander, BTW chanting and rabble-rousing won’t stop the tuition hikes. California is BROKE!!!!

It is a mature person who would recognize these facts and purse other option. I recommend leaving California. That’s what I did, and I’m far better off for it! 🙂

Education is already free. The education system is a big lie and a diploma don’t mean what it used to mean(that you will be able to pay off your student loan). Waste of time and waste of money, debt, debt, debt, enjoy your slavery, kids! (until complete collapse of the monetary system, coming soon, THANK GOD!)

Let big education fail!, its already failed this generation.

  6. Dave says:

    Its Cayenne Pepper, people!
Make some chili and get over it!

  7. morgana says:

Hilarious! An ad for a mortgage company comes on before the video! HAHAHAHA! None of these educated kids qualify!

  8. gabadab says:

Students need to protest in a peacful fashion. Violaters will be pepper sprayed.
A better questions would be, “Was the pepper spray organic?”

  9. Nasser Ejaz says:

What political party is responsible for these educated young people to expect that education be free? What party is responsible for them to believe that they had a right to break down a door to attend a meeting that the organizers already arrranged for them to have representatives at? TYhe bunch of babies to reimburse the city for the ambulances that took them and their phony injuries to the hospital.

  10. Bubba Johnson says:

Clowns like this cause total mayhem, then are shocked when they are treated as they are. Talk about stupid. A perfect example of the effectiveness of our education system. But it’s okay – more money will take care of everything.

    1. Sander says:

If we throw money at you, will you go away?

      1. JustAGuy says:

If we throw money at Jerry Brown, he’ll gladly spend it up!

  11. JustAGuy says:

If you leftists think free speech amounts to being disruptive and obstructive, then say hello to my little friend. Her name is Pepper Spray! Ms. Spray will get your attention!

  12. me says:

oh fire hasard eh! but spraying toxic pepper spray is OK what a joke the system has come to, sad.

    1. JustAGuy says:

Let the pepper spray flow plentifully.

Because it’s OBVIOUS their “cool parents” didn’t teach them much in the way of respect for authority and decent social behavior.

      1. Tom says:

Since when is pepper spraying kids decent social behavior?

Those who abuse their powers entrusted in them only to become overly violent and oppressive do not deserve respect.

      2. JustAGuy says:

Tom, do you lack comprehension? Re-read my post. Then review the chain of events. If you still don’t understand, that’s pretty saddening.

    2. John says:

Since when was cayenne pepper toxic?

  13. Barack Obozo says:

Pepper spray…could happen to a better group of thugs.

  14. andifyoudontknow says:

    Vote for PEDRO!!!!!!

    1. JustAGuy says:

If I had to choose between PEDRO and Obama, I vote for PEDRO!

Besides, Pedro’s bike is cooler than Obama’s! Pedro’s bike has pegs, Obama rides a girl’s bike!

  15. Cory says:

Isn’t it interesting that the protesting students all come from a third world back ground expecting a free education!

  16. Hardmoney says:

Everthing cost more than it used to, food, fuel, clothing, medical, living and breathing. Welcome to the real world. Just wait a few years, today prices will seem cheap, and might even referred to as the ‘good o’l days’. I think I’ll go down to the gas station and protest that gas prices should be lowered to the $0.30 that I paid for gas in 1970. Then, I’m going to the grocery store and yell at the store manager to bring the price of bread back down to $0.50.
These young protesters are the same people who will spend $70.00 a month on their data plans, $75.00 a month for satelite TV, $ 75-100 for conert tickets. Have you seen what the fast food places charge for the smallest beverage; $1.49, for a 12 oz cup.
Imagine the protests when these young people have kids, and they have to pay the bills for their own kids education, these are YOUR Good Old Days.
When my mom was 20 years old, in 1940, she was earning $15.00 a week, but you could buy a loaf of bread for a nickel. Now you make a thousand a week, but bread costs $4.50 a loaf and gas costs $4.30+.
Someone is going to have to break the news to these protesting little children, that Life Is Not Fair, and that life never was fair. Wipe your big tears, and get on with living.

  17. Everyday Guy says:

These students represent “The Stupid People Vote.” A new branch of the democrat party.

  18. Mama says:

Throwing a temper tantrum worked at home so why not at school? Nothing worse than puffed-up cry babies.

  19. Meow says:

Good job campus security! I took a class at this college and want to express that the students there behaved like escapees from an institution for the insane. Asian males and females without manners only in my country for a free education. Latino males and females with an attitude of entitlement and the goal to turn English to Spanish. Poor, poor dears all fall back on the worn out bleating and braying that ‘they’ are the first ones in their family to go to college. California taxpayers… gimme, gimme, gimme!!!
