Dodgers, Angels Open Highly-Anticipated 'Freeway Series'

ANAHEIM (CBS) — The Dodgers and Angels opened their "freeway series" Monday night.

Both teams have a lot riding on the season. The Angels spent big on slugger Albert Pujols and the new Dodger owners; well they just spent big on everything.

Fans lined up early at Angel's Stadium to see the game-one matchup.

It may only be an exhibition game, but do not tell that to the fans.

"I've been coming here since I was a little kid and it's always a good time," said Angel's fan Lindsey Church.

No matter who you were rooting for, there seemed to be a lot going on for both Southern California baseball teams.

The Angeles had a new star first basemen in 32-year-old Albert Pujols and the Dodgers had new owners, including Magic Johnson.

For fans, the hope was that the 2012-13 season would be one for the books.

"It can only get better. McCourt, he was bad for the Dodgers, bad for baseball. Glad to see him go," said Dodger fan David Leamon.

"With the new ownership coming in it gives us a lot of hope. That's pretty relevant with the increase in sales, since the announcement, ticket sales have gone up going through the roof," added Dodger fan Jeremy Leamon.

"Well I'm really excited to see they have new owners and I'm hoping that it will go in a great direction," said Doger fan Caitlin Leamon.

Even Angels fan Mitch Crowley could see the positive changes for the Dodgers.

"They've got a lot of pieces, they've got, you know, they've got a lot of good players. They've just got to put it all together and kind of organize themselves and get motivated, so they can do well, Crowley said, adding just not as well as the Angels.

"I'm excited about the Angel's prospects with the addition of a new, better pitcher and Pujols, I think we should be able to get five or six games out of that," he added.

One thing that all could agree upon Monday night was that in the end, all the changes would benefit the fans.
