LOS ANGELES (CBS) -The LaTimes reports that the bidders to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers are down to the final three after Memphis Grizzlies owner Michael Heisel got eliminated Friday afternoon, and a new owner could be chosen by  next week.

Last week, billionaire Steve Cohen, who is partnered up by billionaire and philanthropist Patrick Soon-Shiong,  emerged as the strongest of three candidates to acquire ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers .

The other two groups are led by Magic Johsnon and former Washington Nationals President Stan Kastan; and St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke –whose wife is the daughter of Wal-Mart founder Bud Walton.

Cohen, who is reportedly worth $8.3 billion, has a similar bid to the one made by Magic Johnson and his group at $1.6 billion. The only difference, Cohen has half of his bid in cash.

MLB owners are expected to vote on the three bidders as early as next week.

Dodgers owner Frank McCourt must choose a bidder by April 1st, per court agreement.
