Boy, 17, Accused Of Dragging Pitbull Puppy, Partially Severing Her Paw

LUCERNE VALLEY (CBS) — A 17-year-old boy has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly dragging a 10-month-old blue pitbull.

The boy, whose name was not released, is believed to have caused the debilitating injuries to a puppy since renamed Valentine, according to San Bernardino Sheriff's officials.

Valentine was found on Feb. 10 in a rural area of Lucerne Valley, limping with black plastic tape wrapped around her muzzle. She had a partially severed right front paw, broken left front paw, burns to her face and front legs and a skull fracture.

An investigation led to the teen suspect's home in Lucerne Valley, where detectives conducted a search and arrested the boy. He remains in custody at Apple Valley Juvenile Detention Center.

The teen was charged with two felony counts of animal cruelty and arson.

Valentine is recovering well and will soon be placed for adoption, according to sheriff's officials.
