Muppets Celebrate Their New Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored the Muppets Tuesday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The ceremony was held outside of the El Capitan Theatre in the 6800 block of Hollywood Boulevard.

"The Muppets Show" began in 1976 and the franchise later branched out to the big screen with their first feature film, "The Muppets Movie" in 1979.

Celebrity cameos such as Bob Hope, Cloris Leachman, Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Richard Pryor and Amy Adams have been the hallmark of all six Muppet movies which include "The Great Muppet Caper" (1981), "The Muppets Take Manhattan" (1984), "The Muppet Christmas Carol" (1992), "Muppet Treasure Island" (1996) and "Muppets from Space" (1999) and the latest film, "The Muppets" (2011).

Tuesday's event coincides with the DVD release of their 2011 film.
