Lakers To Excercise Bynum's Option For Next Season

HOUSTON, Texas (CBS) - As expected, the Los Angeles Lakers will pick up Andrew Bynum's option for next season worth $16.1-million.

Bynum, who was the starting center for the Western Conference this year, is averaging 18.1 points and 12.9 rebounds per game.

"He's the starting center on the West All-Star team. Why wouldn't we do everything we could to keep him here?" Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak said. "We're ecstatic to have him on the team."

After his option, Bynum would become an unrestircted free agent unless the Lakers decide to sign him long-term.
