Reward Cards Help Drivers Save Amid Rising Gas Prices

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Sky-high gas prices have many SoCal residents reconsidering their weekend plans.

Currently, prices are at more than $4 a gallon.

CardHub.com recommends several gas reward cards to beat the price at the pump.

The Pentagon Federal Credit Union platinum cash reward card gives 5 percent back on gas bills and 1 percent back on everything else. To qualify, customers must join the credit union, which costs $15 a year.

There's also the Blue Cash Every Day Card from American Express, which credits 2 percent back on gas and 3 percent on groceries. There's no annual fee and customers can earn $100 for spending a $1,000 in the first three months.

A Costco membership entitles drivers to the True Earnings Card from American Express. Customers get 3 percent back on their first $3,000 spent on gas and 1 percent thereafter. Cardholders get a 2 percent return on restaurants and travel.

Drivers can also try the BP credit card which returns 10 percent of the value paid on BP gas for the first 60 days and then 5 percent after that. In the first two months, cardholders also get 4 percent off travel and dining and 2 percent off everything else.
