Deputies: Motive Still Unknown In Murder Of Man Outside Popular Malibu Restaurant

MALIBU (CBS) — Sheriff's detectives continued their investigation Monday into the murder of a man outside of a popular Malibu restaurant.

The murder of the Guido's employee occurred around 9:45 p.m. Sunday outside of Guido's in the 3800 block of Cross Creek Road, deputies said.

The incident was originally reported as a shooting, but detectives later confirmed the 32-year-old victim was confronted by an unknown number of suspects and suffered some type of beating.

"The victim managed to escape the suspects and staggered to the front of the location before he collapsed. Paramedics responded and upon arrival they pronounced him dead at the scene," detectives said in a statement.

Authorities said the man was covered, from head to toe, in blood.

KNX 1070's Jon Baird reports the man's identity has not been released, but a co-worker said he was a dishwasher and food preparer in his 20s named Carlos and that he was taking out the trash when he was beaten.

"He's a real nice guy . . . and he worked for a couple years at Guido's," said the victim's co-worker Victor Barraza.

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the attack. The victim's exact cause of death has not been released.

Detectives are looking for a light-skinned man, about 30 years old, who they said was seen walking across the parking lot around the time the attack occurred.
