Investigators Visit San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant Following Testing Failure

SAN CLEMENTE (CBS) — Federal investigators are visiting the San Onofre nuclear power plant after three steam generator tubes failed pressure testing on Wednesday.

The tubes, which provide an additional barrier to prevent the release of radioactive steam, are located in Unit 3.

The unit has been shut down for six weeks of maintenance.

Inspectors with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission say they will hold a public meeting when the inspection is complete.
