LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Police on Friday released a composite sketch of a man suspected in an attempted kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl in Cypress Park.

The victim was walking to Los Angeles River High School near Cypress Avenue and Silver Street at around 8:20 a.m. on March 14 when the suspect attempted to drag the victim into his truck, according to Capt. Brian Pratt of the LAPD Northeast Division.

"As she was walking, she was approached and grabbed by an unknown suspect who was unarmed, who attempted to pull her inside his vehicle," said Pratt. "She valiantly fought off this attack and ran to her school."

Students have since been advised to walk in pairs or groups in the area immediately surrounding the campus.

The suspect is described as a male Hispanic between the ages of 20 and 25 years old, approximately 5'7" tall and weighing 180 pounds. He had "distinguishing" acne or chicken pox-type scarring on his face and was sporting a light beard.

The suspect's vehicle was described as a late-model Toyota pickup truck with faded red paint and metal objects loaded in the rear.

Anyone with information on the attempted kidnapping was asked to call LAPD Northeast Division detectives at (323) 344-5701.
