Caught On Tape: Burglar Targets OC Businesses Selling Indian Jewelry
LAGUNA BEACH (CBS) — Authorities have released a video of one in a series of burglaries targeting businesses selling Indian jewelry in Orange County.
Five burglaries have occurred between midnight and 5 a.m. by a suspect who shatters the front window of the stores with a rock.
The burglary caught on video occurred Saturday at Kokopelli Gallery, located at 332 Forest Avenue in Laguna Beach, when $3,500 worth of jewelry was taken in 30 seconds, Lt. Jason Kravetz said.
The burglar wore a dark jacket, white baseball hat and sweatpants with striping, Kravetz said.
The other burglaries happened at:
- Indian Territory, 305 North Coast Highway, on Dec. 29, $3,000 worth of Indian jewelry stolen, including Navajo coins and turquoise necklaces;
- Indian Territory, on Jan. 22, lost $15,000 worth of jewelry including a Navajo Collector's set, including 11 concha coral medallions;
- Great Exchange Consignment, 976 South Coast Highway, on Jan. 30, lost a large amount of jewelry from a display case, several pieces of which were dropped on the street. A dollar loss is not available; and
- Kokopelli Gallery on Feb. 29. Burglar took $10,000 worth of jewelry and stones.
Anyone with information was asked to call Laguna Beach police.
