Attorney: Ocampo Slammed Head On Jail Toilet To Stop Hearing Voices

SANTA ANA (CBS) — An Iraq war veteran charged in the murder of six people in Orange County has apparently suffered a self-inflicted injury behind bars.

KNX 1070's Mike Landa reports the lawyer for Itzcoatl "Izzy" Ocampo said his client has a giant welt after he slammed his head onto a jail toilet.

Defense attorney Randall Longwith said Ocampo, 23, told him he hears voices and wanted to silence them by hitting his head.

During a recent jail visit, Longwith said Ocampo appeared to be agitated and was seen constantly shaking and twitching.

"The twitches come and go, but when I saw him Monday it was nonstop," said Longwith, who believes his client may have been traumatized during his duty as a medic.

The former Marine pleaded not guilty last month on six charges of murdering Raquel Estrada, 53, and her 34-year-old son, Juan Herrea, at their home in Yorba Linda along with killing four homeless men.

Ocampo was scheduled to appear in court for a pretrial hearing on Friday.

If convicted, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
