Police: Man Found In Macy's Store May Have 'Bedded Down' Before Closing

WOODLAND HILLS (CBS) — A man who may have hid in a Macy's department store in a Woodland Hills mall when it closed was arrested for burglary, police said Thursday.

The suspect was spotted shortly before 1:30 a.m. by a mall security guard working the graveyard shift in the store at the Westfield Shoppingtown Promenade at 6100 Topanga Canyon Boulevard, said Officer Mary Fencl of the Los Angeles Police Department.

He was taken into custody about 90 minutes later, Fencl said.

"He laid low, we assembled a perimeter and got a canine out there," she said. "They went in and got him into custody."

An LAPD helicopter crew assisted in the search for the suspect, who was booked on suspicion of burglary, Fencl said. It was not immediately known if he broke into the Macy's "or if he just bedded down," she said.

His identity was not immediately released.
