Los Angeles Woman Sentenced To 5 Years For Internet Rental Scam

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles woman has been sentenced to five years in state prison for using the Internet to scam people out of security deposits for rental properties.

Charletta Ann Randle, 30, pleaded no contest last month to four counts of grand theft. She was sentenced Thursday.

Her co-defendant, 29-year-old Keith Charles Adkins, has pleaded no contest to six charges. Prosecutors say he is facing more than 12 years in state prison when he is sentenced July 11.

The pair is accused of stealing over $16,000 in security deposits in a rental scheme they ran via Craigslist. Prosecutors say victims found out they'd been scammed when they tried to move into rental properties they were promised.

Charges against a third person were dismissed last month at the prosecution's request.
