2 Students Injured In School Fight In Carson

CARSON (CBS) — Two students were injured Wednesday following a fight on campus, the Los Angeles Unified School District said.

About 30 students at Carson High School, 22328 Main Street, were involved in several small fights during a nutrition break around 10 a.m., according to LAUSD officials.

"You see kids getting knocked down, you see some kids bleeding, you see some kids knocked out," another student said.

Two students suffered injuries to their heads and stomachs and were transported to Harbor General Hospital in unknown conditions, officials said.

Officials say students used their feet to stomp and kick others.

Three students were arrested for assault and five more were cited for fighting, according to the district.

CBS2's Melissa McCarty reported that the fight was between black football players and a Mexican tagging crew at the school.

Officials say the cause of the fight is still under investigation.

"Descriptions of these fights as racially-motivated have not been substantiated," said Los Angeles School Police Chief Steven Zipperman. "This campus has no current racial issues."

The school was placed on a modified lockdown after the fight, meaning students could go to lunch and use bathrooms.
