Memorial Fund Set Up For Redondo Beach Slaying Victims

REDONDO BEACH (CBS) — A memorial fundraiser was held Sunday for a mother and daughter who were murdered last week.

The two-hour event to raise burial funds for 19-year-old Courtney Bergman and 59-year-old Vicki Bergman was held at the Cheesecake Factory at 605 N. North Harbor Drive, where Courtney worked part-time as a hostess.

Lalania McGee-Hall was Courtney's cousin and Vicki's niece.

"Courtney was the light of her life," McGee-Hall said of Vicki. "She waited until she was 40 years old to have a child, and she just lived for Courtney."

The victims were found inside their Redondo Beach home on Tuesday.

Police were alerted by one of Vicki's coworkers who discovered their bodies on the floor.

The suspect, identified by authorities as 23-year-old Jonathan Chacon, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He was arrested in Mexico and was brought back to LA.

Friends of the victims tell CBSLA that Chacon is the ex-boyfriend of Courtney and that the two met in high school. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.

"The judicial system will take care of him," says McGee-Hall. "And I hope that he gets the death penalty."

The following memorial fund has established at Jp Morgan Chase Bank:

Vicki & Courtney Bergman Trust
Acct. #3009158188

Donations can be made at any Chase location.
