Boyfriend Charged With Capital Murder In Redondo Beach Stabbing Deaths

TORRANCE (AP) — Prosecutors have charged a man with two counts of murder for the Redondo Beach stabbing deaths of his girlfriend and her mother.

The bodies of 19-year-old Courtney Bergman and 59-year-old Vicki Bergman were found in their apartment on Tuesday.

Los Angeles prosecutor Christi Frey said Friday that 23-year-old Jonathan Scott Chacon has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of multiple murders and a special allegation that he used a knife.

It's the first time authorities disclosed a knife was used in the killings.

Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death penalty.

Chacon was captured at a hotel in Rosarito Beach. Mexico. He was turned over to Redondo Beach detectives on Wednesday.

Investigators haven't given a motive for the killings.
