Another Long Beach School Fight Sends Student To Hospital
LONG BEACH (CBS) — Authorities say a Wilson High School student has been hospitalized with serious injuries following a fight, just a week after an elementary school girl died from injuries she suffered during an after-school scuffle.
The fight apparently happened about 2 p.m. Wednesday in an off-campus incident near 10th Street and Termino Avenue, according to the Long Beach Press-Telegram. The student – said to be 16 years old by police, but Long Beach Unified School District officials say the student was 15 years old – suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The after-school incident may have started as a lunchtime fight on campus earlier that day. A school official confirmed to the Press-Telegram that a scuffle did happen at lunchtime that was stopped by school staff, but would not say whether the after-school fight was related.
An investigation continues into the death of Willard Elementary School student, Joanna Ramos. Police are looking into allegations that the girl 10-year-old Joanna was fighting with kneed her in the head last Friday.
The 11-year-old girl involved in the fight has not been arrested or charged, but has been transferred to another school, according to the Press-Telegram.
The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office ruled Monday that Joanna's cause of death was homicide by blunt force trauma.
