Power Outage Causes Blue Line Train Delays

LOS ANGELES (CBS)— A problem with the electrical system that powers Metro Blue Line trains caused headaches for morning commuters Thursday, and delays of up to 30 minutes were anticipated for evening commuters as crews worked to handle repairs.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says dozens of buses have been rerouted to shuttle passengers between the Willowbrook Station and the 7th Street Station downtown.

The agency is now running twelve trains between Wilmington and downtown L.A., with the trains running every 20 minutes. It also has established a bus bridge to supplement the limited train service.

Metro spokeswoman Helen Ortiz Gilstrap says commuters should consider alternate arrangements, including catching a train on another line at the Artesia Transit Center at 731 W. 182nd St. in Gardena.

Commuters should be aware of the following:

-- Beginning about 3 p.m., Blue Line trains will run about every 10 minutes between the Seventh Street/Metro Center Station and the Imperial/Wilmington Green Line transfer point. Trains also will operate every 20 minutes between Imperial/Wilmington and the Long Beach Transit Mall

-- Extra Silver Line service will also be added between downtown Los Angeles and the Harbor Freeway Station, as an alternate for downtown passengers heading back to the Green Line

-- There will be no freeway express upcharge on any Harbor Transitway services from downtown Silver Line

-- Trains will share one track at the Del Amo, Wardlow and Willow stations

-- If a delay verification is needed for employer or school, contact Metro customer relations by calling (213) 922-6235, or send a fax to (213) 922-6988
